Sugarmill Woods Country Club and Citrus National (formerly Southern Woods) has seen some tough times the last few years. Once owned by a Japanese company that also owned World Woods of Golf, the tide is turning.
In July 2023 the club celebrated its one year of new ownership with a celebratory gathering for the members. One needs to only listen to Scott and Penny to know that they understand a critical concept of business – remember to keep the main thing, the main thing!!
I am sure everyone has an opinion about what should be the main thing, Is it fast greens, trees, fairways, staff, customer service, cart paths, improved layout and/or all of the above. But one thing is for sure, he and Penny are not novices and sound prepared to tackle the challenges of owners/managers.
Scott Yates
Scott has 20 years+ under his belt in the golf industry. He is a Class A PGA Professional golfer who has performed most every chore needed to understand golf course and golf club management. His passion for everything golf, especially as the owner, is evident from the moment you meet him. He speaks with knowledge and enthusiasm about the greens like they were his kids!
Penny Parks
Co-owner and wife to Scott, she is fully involved with this venture. Active in the Tampa community as a volunteer with golf, she is literally the purse strings to this project. Her background is finance and helping business people buy-and-sell businesses. Het interest in the operation of the business is apparent from the moment of contact with her. Her friendly, outgoing, can-do attitude is infectious making this couple the right ones to successfully complete this journey.
